This is a question we get asked at every presentation we make -"Which is best, Facebook, Twitter or YouTube?"

The fact that we're asked this so much is an indication of the interest social media is generating amongst business people, marketing professionals especially. Indeed, according to CMO.com, 81% of Chief Marketing Officers believe that their social media investment links directly to their annual revenues.

Now when this many senior marketing professionals believe there's value in social media, it means there either is – or a lot of very intelligent people are wrong!

Whichever view you take, there's no doubt that social media is being taken seriously and if you want to get involved how do you know which media is best for you?

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are probably the most well known, but there are many more to consider too, and each has its own particular strengths and weaknesses.

Fortunately, CMO's guide to the Social Landscape is an excellent way to quickly examine the strengths and weaknesses of 10 of the most popular social media websites, rating each in terms of its ability to:

  • Assist with customer communication
  • Increase brand exposure
  • Drive traffic to your website directly
